Q: Is Flakeboard a Certified Forest Products Manufacturer? Which Flakeboard products are Certified?
A: Flakeboard is EPP certified to the accredited and internationally based Grademark Program which follows the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Guide 65 for quality control programs. The principle requirement for EPP certification is compliance with the utilization of 100% recovered or recycled raw materials, and adherence to CARB Phase 1 formaldehyde standards.
Please refer to the Environmental page of this website for further details.

Q: What is the difference between hardboard and FIBREX® high density thin MDF?
A: Hardboard is a composite wood product utilizing an older wet process technology. FIBREX® is a thin high-density composite panel product manufactured primarily from hardwood fibers and resins, treated under heat and pressure. FIBREX® is processed using an environmentally friendly dry process, eliminating waste water concerns.

Q: Is Flakeboard registered to ISO standards?
A: Flakeboard proudly displays ISO 9001:2000 registration, reflecting standards that have been adopted in more than 90 countries by thousands of manufacturing and service firms in both the public and private sectors.

Q: What are Flakeboard’s delivery leadtimes for thermally-fused melamine panels in your Specialty colour range?
A: Generally, we can ship Specialty melamines in 3 to 4 weeks.

Q: How do you touch up scratched melamine?
A: For surface chips and scratches on melamine surfaces, use a commercial laminate repair or seam fills which also is applied like nail polish.

Q: Where do we stand with CARB Compliance?
A: All Flakeboard mills manufacturing particleboard and MDF are certified by the Composite Panel Association to produce California Air Resources Board (CARB) ATCM 93120 Phase 1 compliant material as of July 10, 2008.
More information is available on our CARB page.

Our proud exception is Fibrex® LF (low formaldehyde), this thin HDF product meets CARB Phase II.

Q: How can I responsibly dispose of your materials?
A: We recommend contacting your state or federal resources in order to get options that are legal and relevant to your area.

Q: In order to satisfy LEED credits MR 4.1 and 4.2, how can I get Flakeboard’s pre-consumer (post-industrial) and post-consumer values?
A: Because material composition varies from mill to mill and by season, please contact us for percentage values.
Please supply the product and the facility that it is sourced from as pre and post consumer material composition vary from mill to mill and by season.
